Lockdown Browser

Respondus LockDown Browser is a secure browser for taking quizzes in Desire2Learn. It prevents students from printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during a quiz. If a Desire2Learn quiz requires that Respondus LockDown Browser be used, students will not be able to take the quiz with a standard web browser.

Respondus LockDown Browser should only be used for taking Desire2Learn Quizzes. It should not be used in other areas of Desire2Learn.

Taking a Quiz that requires LockDown Browser

  • Make sure to use a hard wired connection to the internet. Do not use wi-fi / wireless when taking a quiz.
  • Close all programs -- including iTunes, email, chats, instant messaging, Skype, Google Desktop, etc.
  • If prompted to close a blocked program (e.g. screen capture, instant messaging), choose Yes.
  • From Course Homepage -- click Assessment -- Quizzes -- select specific quiz.
  • Summary page appears -- scroll down the page to Quiz Requirements section.
  • Click Launch Lockdown Browser button.
  • Click the Start Quiz button.
  • Select the appropriate answer, click the Save button for each question.
  • Click the Submit Quiz button when all questions have been answered.

Troubleshooting

Do not use WiFi (wireless internet connection) when taking a quiz/test

If you lose connection to the internet while taking a quiz/test, it will freeze lockdown browser. Make sure to use a hard wired connection to the internet.

If lockdown browser freezes before starting a quiz/test

Close lockdown browser. A security pop-up appears, click OK through questions, relaunch lockdown browser, log in, click on course title, click on Quizzes, click on the quiz name, click Start Quiz, Save after each question, click Submit Quiz.

If lockdown browser freezes while taking a quiz/test

Power off the computer, reboot the computer, relaunch Lockdown Browser, log in, click on the course title, click Quizzes, click on the quiz name, click Continue Quiz, Save after each question, click Submit Quiz. If alloted quiz time has expired, will not be allowed to continue quiz.

If lockdown browser indicates to close Outlook but the program is not open

Right click on the taskbar, click on Start Task Manager, click on the Servics tab, click on BcmSqul...Business Manager SQL Service, and stop service.
Or click on Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features, select Business Contact Manager, right click uninstall.
