Linda Samuelson has been the director of the Northland Community Band and the Northern Jazz (previously the Northland Jazz Band) since the fall of 1999 when she received the baton from her predecessor, Les Torgerson, who had been the director since 1972.
Ms. Samuelson has a BM in Music Education from Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, a Master of Music in Saxophone Performance from Baylor University in Waco, TX, and a certificate in Ethnomusicology from Bethel University.
Prior to coming to Northland, Ms. Samuelson held K-12 Music teaching licensure in Wisconsin and Montana and taught K-12 music in Brady, MT, 9-12 Music in Deer Lodge, MT and K-12 music in Dutton, MT.
At Northland, Ms. Samuelson teaches a variety of courses in the music department including Music Fundamentals, Understanding Music, Rock Music Thru Time, Appreciating Jazz, and Music Around the World. She has also been developing Music of Black America and Music of Latin America courses as well as directing the Community Band and the Chamber Choir.
