Northland Community Band and Northern Jazz Hosts Spring Band Concert

Concert is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, at the Northland Community & Technical College Theater in Thief River Falls.

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn., April 18, 2024 – The Northland Community Band and Northern Jazz will perform a Spring Band Concert on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, inviting the community to enjoy an evening of musical performances starting at 7 p.m. in the Northland Community & Technical College Theater in Thief River Falls. The concert will feature a variety of musical selections showcasing the talents of community instrumentalists.

The Northern Jazz will kick off the performance with four distinct pieces. They will begin with a blues-inspired shuffle featuring a saxophone solo titled “Groovin’ Hard.” The tempo will then slow down for a chorale-like rendition of “America the Beautiful.” Next, the band will perform the well-known theme song from the classic cartoon “Pink Panther.” Finally, they will close their set with “Birdland,” a jazz rock group Weather Report’s original recording.

The Northland Community Band is set to perform a range of musical pieces, including “Abbey Road: A Symphonic Portrait”, “The Phantom Regiment” and “Fiddle-Faddle” by Leroy Anderson. They will also play “Lights Out,” a piece with a pre-recorded soundscape, as well as the familiar “Flower Duet” from Lakmé. The performance will conclude with “Quad City Stomp.”

General admission seating for the concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5.00, and the concert is free of charge for Northland employees and students. For more information, contact Linda Samuelson, Music Instructor, at 218-683-8717 or by email at linda.samuelson@northlandcollege.edu.
