January 18, 2023 — Northland Community and Technical College is pleased to announce that Aiden Kompelien, a Construction Electricity student, has been selected for the All-Minnesota Academic Team. Kompelien will celebrate his achievement at the All-Minnesota Academic Team Recognition Luncheon held in the Rainforest Auditorium at Como Zoo & Conservatory in St. Paul on Friday, March 24.

The annual recognition began nearly 30 years ago as a way to honor and recognize two-year college students for their leadership, academic achievement and community and college service. Sponsored by USA Today, the American Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for two-year colleges, the All-Minnesota Academic Team also provides scholarship opportunities while promoting excellence at two-year colleges.

“This means the world to me,” Kompelien said. “I’ve worked really hard to get to the point I am at today and getting this recognition is proof that it is all finally paying off. I've always wanted to prove to myself, family, and friends that I am capable of excelling in a subject and this recognition proves I can.”

Kompelien earned his spot on the All-Minnesota Academic Team based on the responses he submitted to the Phi Theta Kappa Fall Scholarship application. Though his inclusion on the team does not come with a financial award, it does make him eligible for further opportunities that award more than $41 million in scholarships, as well as the chance to earn a spot on the All-USA Team.

“Northland opened many doors for me,” Kompelien said. “I come from a small town that didn't have a ton of opportunities, but Northland created pathways for jobs, scholarships, academic achievements and much more. Being able to see these doors open and have the opportunity pushed me to do better.”
