On-Campus Student Resources
Your StarID serves as your library account. Use your StarID to log in to online resources and your library account. You will need to present a picture ID to check out materials from the library. For online students, please see the Online/Distance Students information below.

Some of your instructors may schedule a library instruction session, which will be designed specifically for your class. You’ll learn about library resources and how to use them. What you learn will help you with all your other classes, too! Students who use the library tend to be more successful, so don’t miss out on your library instruction session!
Sometimes instructors put supplemental reading (or DVDs) “On Reserve” in the library so everyone in the class has access to the material. Ask for these items at the Circulation Desk. You must know the course name, the instructor’s name, and which item you want. Loan periods for reserve items are either two hours (in-library use only) or overnight (due at noon the following day). The instructor determines loan periods.
We’re here to help you find what you need. Please contact the librarian for in-depth reference and research assistance to schedule a 30-minute appointment. The librarian works at both campus libraries, so plan if you need help.
Most services offered to our on-campus students are available to Northland online/distance classes students. For additional information, please see the Online/Distance Students information below.
The library welcomes purchase suggestions. Please email your recommendations to the librarian. The library’s collection development policy guides purchasing decisions of the library. Resources that support the programs and curriculum take priority. Physical materials purchased with library funds will be added to the library catalog and housed in the library.
Group study rooms are available in both campus libraries and may be reserved up to one week in advance. Use of the study rooms by individuals is on a first come/first served basis. If a group arrives, the individual will be required to vacate.
Food is not allowed in the library or our study rooms. Beverages in spill-proof containers are acceptable. Please see the signage at the library entrance.
Please be respectful of others and courteously use the library. We welcome everyone to come to the library and relax, but please remember our libraries are fairly small, and voices carry. When viewing videos or listening to music, use headphones or earbuds. Headphones are available for checkout at the circulation desk; present your ID to the staff.
You are welcome to use library computers for most purposes, but academic use has priority. Acceptable library PC use is governed by Northland Policy/Procedure 5010/5010P: Acceptable Use of Computers & Information Technology Resources.
Please make phone calls outside the library so you don’t disturb other patrons.
Northland Policy 1075 addresses children on campus. As per this policy: Employees and students may not bring children to scheduled work assignments, classes, computer labs, or the library.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is facilitated through MINITEX, a statewide library consortium. Materials we don’t own can often be borrowed from another library through ILL. Books and media will be sent to the library. Copies of articles are usually sent electronically to the patron; photocopies will be delivered to the library. The library will contact the patron when items are ready for pickup.

If you find items in the library catalog you would like to borrow, please contact a TRF Campus Library Assistant. We will mail books and media to you. You are responsible for shipping the items back to the library by the due date.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) article requests can be submitted through OneSearch; you must be logged in.
Interlibrary Loan is facilitated through MINITEX, a statewide library consortium. ILL offers loans of books and copies of articles. However, due to loan period time constraints, we cannot fill book ILL requests for online/distance students. Should you need to access physical materials (not owned by the Northland libraries), we suggest you access ILL services at a library you are affiliated with in your local area.
Although many articles found in our databases are provided in full text, those that are not may be requested through ILL. Copies of articles are usually sent electronically to the patron. If electronic delivery of your article is not permitted, a photocopy will be delivered to the library, and we will forward it to you.
