Northland to host Minnesota State Week October 25-29

Students and families are encouraged to discover Northland's over 80 career and program options

October 7, 2021 – Northland is set to host Minnesota State Week on its East Grand Forks and Thief River Falls campuses October 25-29, 2021 as part of College Knowledge Month. Thirty state colleges and seven state universities of the Minnesota State system will participate in this fall event.

Minnesota State Week is a promotion intended to drive student awareness and virtual and in-person campus visits, as appropriate. This timing immediately follows the K-12 MEA break – this is an outstanding time to take advantage of the many admissions events happening at the colleges and universities in mid-October and learn about available grants and scholarships, including Workforce Development Scholarships for students entering any of several high-demand careers.

College Knowledge Month is a statewide college application initiative that occurs annually during the month of October. The goal is to provide graduating high school seniors with the support needed to apply for college.

“We are once again participating in Minnesota State week at Northland. This is a great time for anyone considering a career change to take that leap to pursue a degree at Northland,” shares Nicki Carlson, Director of Enrollment Management & Admissions, “Northland offers flexibility in course offerings to accommodate the busy lives of our students. If you are unsure about what program you would like to major in, our admissions team is here to help.”

Northland Minnesota State Week activities will be available in person and remotely. Prospective students can take a tour, virtually or in person, meet with student services representatives, and attend online program information sessions hosted by faculty in the Nursing, Agriculture, Animal Science, Building Trades, Welding, and Liberal Arts programs. This is an opportunity for prospective students and their families to discover Northland–to gather advice and get their admissions and enrollment questions answered.

“Minnesota State Week is the ideal time to check out Northland’s campuses and familiarize themselves with the college as they consider their options for next semester or next fall,” Ben Hoffman, Director of Advising and Registrar, illustrates, “Advisors continue to meet our students and prospective students where they are by offering student in-person as well as virtual appointments. Anyone from any background or of any age can find a great fit at Northland.”

Students who apply for admission during Minnesota State Week can do so for free as Northland waives all application fees. However, financing tuition can still be overwhelming for some students.

“Now is the time for future students and their families to start thinking about how to finance college. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opened on October 1 and there’s no better time like the present to get started,” reveals Lisa Bottem, Northland Director of Financial aid. “Financing a college education may be a stretch for many families and the process of applying for financial aid can be confusing, but our Financial Aid staff is here to help them pursue all avenues of aid that might be available and answer any questions that might arise.”

Minnesota State Week is open to current high school students and recent graduates, members of the military, or seasoned workforce professionals looking to make a career change, parents, or anyone looking to get an in-depth look at Northland’s 80+ program offerings.
