July 18, 2022 – With fall semester on the horizon, Northland Community & Technical College looks forward to returning to the academic year with more student learning options.

Following a changing landscape in higher education, Northland will continue to offer a greater variety of virtual and hybrid class options. Education has greatly changed over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic throwing institutions into a virtual format. Even before the pandemic, Northland was a leader in online education with various distance offerings across liberal arts, business, and health programs. The college plans to continue expanding on the aspects of virtual education that worked well, such as offering hyflex and hybrid class options where students can attend classes face-to-face, online, or a combination of both.

“Over the last two years, we have learned that students are looking for more flexibility in how and where they take their courses,” said Jodi Stauss, Northland Interim Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, “We need to be ready to meet that demand and make sure that Northland is leading the way in flexible learning.”

While not all courses work well in a virtual environment, such as learning to wire a home or repair an engine, most lecture format courses can adapt. While virtual learning is an exciting addition to the college landscape, not all students thrive in this setting.

Stauss continues. “Our main priority is to ensure we are meeting our students’ needs, and we feel confident that all students will find the right delivery method at Northland.”

Through July, students interested in starting classes at Northland can also drop by the college on Tuesdays without an appointment to attend a one-stop enrollment day where they can meet one-on-one with college representatives who can help guide them through the enrollment process.
