CAD Designer

Job Description:  
Ever-Green Energy is looking for a team member to provide computer-aided design (CAD) services for district heating and district cooling central plant, buried distribution piping networks, and customer building mechanical systems connected to district systems operated, managed and/or supported by Ever-Green Energy, under direct supervision and instruction. Work shall include, the preparation of drawings for new construction and maintenance projects, the preparation of drawings for as-built purposes, and the maintenance and organization of record drawings and system maps in physical and electronic formats.

Minimum requirements to be successful in this role:
• Associates Degree in Applied Science or abbreviated A.A.S.
• One year of experience in civil or mechanical design utilizing Autodesk Civil3D or Plant3D.
• Strong ability with Autodesk AutoCAD applications to provide analysis of systems and produce engineering plan drawings.
• Process plant or building HVAC design background from conceptual design to layout and design of process and utility piping systems.

Preferred qualifications include:
• Three to five (5) years design experience.
• Past experience and/or academic focus in thermal/industrial systems, utilities, and campus systems.
• Process plant or building HVAC design background from conceptual design to layout and design of process and utility piping systems.
• Working knowledge of structural steel design practices related to equipment supports, pipe, and building structural framing.
• Working knowledge of process and utility piping specifications and codes.

Essentials Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide computer-aided design (CAD) services for district energy and district cooling central plant and customer buildings system design and maintenance projects of low to medium complexity under the direct supervision of the manager and Project Engineer.
a. Prepare CAD drawings using Autodesk Plant 3D design software, including project layout, plan and detail drawings for new construction projects and plant or building maintenance projects.
b. Assist in bid document preparation, including figures, detail drawings, or other associated documents.
c. Utilizes CAD Standards of the organization.
d. Receives reviews of drawings for quality and accuracy from higher-level colleague.

2. Provide computer-aided design (CAD) services for district energy and district cooling distribution system design and maintenance projects of low to medium complexity under the direct supervision of the manager and Project Engineer. Refers more complex issues to manager or higher-level colleague.
a. Prepare CAD drawings using Autodesk Civil 3D design software, including project layout, topographical information, plan and profile drawings, and detail drawings for new construction projects and maintenance projects.
b. Assist in bid document preparation, including figures, detail drawings, or other associated documents.
c. Utilizes CAD Standards of the organization.
d. Receives reviews of drawings for quality and accuracy from higher-level colleague.

3. Assist with the Ever-Green Energy operated systems customer service initiatives under the direct supervision of the Project Engineer.
a. Update and maintain Customer Connection Standards details and schematics with industry standard process flow diagrams and P&IDs.
b. Perform piping design including 3D routing of pipes, determination of pipe supports and creation of isometric drawings necessary for fabrication and installation of piping systems.
c. Perform customer site visits and data gathering in customer buildings to assist with efficiency and improvement projects.

4. Assist with the Ever-Green Energy operated systems plant operations and projects under the direct supervision of the Project Engineer.
a. Update and maintain production system process flow diagrams and P&IDs, details, and schematics with industry standard symbology.
b. Perform 3D facility design and equipment layouts including generation of sketches and General Arrangement drawings necessary for the installation of processing equipment.
c. Perform piping design including 3D routing of pipes, determination of pipe supports and creation of Isometric drawings necessary for the fabrication and installation of piping systems.
d. Performing fieldwork necessary to gather data, check tie-ins and provide construction support.

5. Participate in and provide emergency response as required by District Energy St. Pauls On-Call program and other customer-based assistance.

6. Support other Ever-Green Energy System Development team projects as necessary to meet project needs under direct supervision of the project manager and/or Project Engineer.

7. Complete other tasks as assigned by supervisor.

The ideal candidate for this job will be a motivated, self-starter who can perform design work under direct supervision. The candidate should possess the flexibility and adaptability to work effectively with a diverse set of individuals within and outside of the organization. A basic understanding of electrical systems and construction drawings beneficial. A basic understanding and ability to interpret typical construction and detail plan drawings. Developing skill and ability to work with MS Office Suite software, including Word and Excel. Basic understanding of, or the willingness to learn about, hot water, steam, and chilled water buried distribution systems. Developing organizational abilities, including the ability to perform report preparation and records management.

Position requires 15% (local, national, both local and national) travel.
